About the artist
But who is Andren?
Perpetual creator that he is, Andren is a polyvalent artist and graphic designer, creating art on paper, canvas or on a monitor. He has always had an enormous desire to create, may it be with a pen, a pencil, a brush… or even a camera, and of course a computer.
Born in Brussels, Belgium where he spent his youth surrounded by “The adventures of Tintin” and other famous Belgian comic book characters, Andren (André Notte) would spend hours doodling on paper or looking out the Brussels’ apartment’s window, attracted by the movements of people and tramways on the boulevard.
Andren left Europe at an early age, now living in Montreal as an underground artist who masters visual art. From canvas painting to digital illustration, his imagination is beyond the limits, and his work made his renown.
After starting as an illustrator, cartoonist and creative director for a publishing house, he later ran his own creative agency, creating adverting concepts, logo designs and French and English slogans for Canadian, American and European clients. Andren now devotes most of his days with a greater passion for illustration and painting, with every sheet of paper, blank canvas or digital monitor becoming another creation in the making.
From his studio in Montreal, Andren brings to life works that are each more unique than the last. Combining elements of both surrealism and contemporary art, his work stands out in the Quebec art scene.
Andren’s influences are very numerous, from artists like Buffet, Lichtenstein, Warhol or Dali, to Italian film directors such as Fellini and Antonioni, and poets like Baudelaire and Prévert. His work reflects fragments of his life and his personality.
